File Purge Definition: A file purge is a request to the RCMP Purge Unit in Ottawa to remove a record in CPIC (Canadian Police Information Centre) showing an admission or finding of guilt that resulted in an Absolute or Conditional Discharge prior to July 24, 1992. Fingerprints and a certified criminal record check are required for this application, and are part of FPS service package. File Purge Benefits: A file purge will effectively close your record in CPIC (Canadian Police Information Centre). CPIC is a computer database where criminal records are held. Criminal record checks are usually processed using CPIC for Employment, Volunteering, Immigration, Citizenship and Foster Care/Adoptions. Applying for a File Purge: 1. Hire FPS to handle all documents, provide on-site fingerprint service, and to ensure that your application is done correct. We keep the process of a file purge simple, fast and convenient for you. We provide a complete service package and usually with 3 months* you will receive notice that your file purge has been granted. Competition Time: 1. Usually 3 months, however, *time lines are dependant on RCMP fingerprint unit, along with RCMP purge unit, both are currently experiencing backlogs.
